A beautiful sterling silver jewelry piece from the 1980s Victorian revival period when designers paid homage to the turn of the century in clothing, architecture and jewelry.
Features an ornate main pin with lovely rolo chain and dangling charms: a comb, a clothes pin and a pair of scissors (which actually open!). SO cute, it reminds me of a character from Peaky Blinders.
THE accessory to top off your vintage ensemble or to add a touch of Victorian edge to a contemporary outfit.
Stamped: REO 925 Sterling
Excellent vintage condition: Pin has a secure clasp. There is natural oxidation for age but would polish up to a perfect shine. I leave vintage sterling as is because some collectors prefer the old patina.
Main pin 1.25" x 1.5"
Total length 4"
Each charm approximately 1" long
**A chatelaine refers to an item suspended from a waistband by cord or chain, which were popular from the 1860s to the end of the 19th century to hold necessities such as keys, etc. Worn by women from housekeepers to the senior woman of the house, it was more than a fasion statement but a sign of responsibility. Younger women who wanted the appearance of this responsibility would often wear decorative chatelaines with a variety of small objects in the place of keys. Often knives, tools, whistles and other useful and decorative items.**
